Oskaloosa High School students, administrators and teachers scrub the brass Oskaloosa Indian Head in the student lounge Monday before classes began on the first day of school. Traditionally, freshmen had to scrub the head, but school officials had to modify the tradition as the U.S. and Iowa departments of education consider such an activity to be hazing. Now all students are allowed to volunteer to scrub the Indian Head.
