An Appanoose County man is going to state prison after repeated convictions for driving while intoxicated.
Rodney Eugene Campbell, 27, of Centerville, was found guilty of third offense drunken driving and on July 31 in Wayne County he was sentenced by Judge Artis Ione Reis to five years in state prison, a fine and credit for 38 days served in jail.
Campbell entered a voluntary, negotiated guilty plea to the charge of third offense drunken driving, a class D felony, on July 31.
According to the criminal complaint filed June 26, Campbell nearly hit a deputy's patrol car on Highway 2 near 180th Street in Wayne County on June 24.
The judge suspended Campbell's driver's license for six years.
Campbell owes $4,368.75 for this case.
According to Iowa online court records, Campbell has four OWI convictions in Appanoose County.
On March 31, 2006 he was sentenced in Appanoose County on the charge of OWI, first offense. On Dec. 15, 2006 Campbell was sentenced in Appanoose County on the charge of OWI, second offense. Online records show Campbell owes $975.79 on this case. On June 29, 2007 Campbell was sentenced in Appanoose County on the charge of OWI, second offense. And on May 16, 2008 Campbell was sentenced in Appanoose County on the charge of OWI, third offense. Online records show Campbell owes $5,730.40 on this case.
Punishment in the four Appanoose County cases included fines, jail time and prison sentences suspended for jail time and for probation.
