Question of the Week

Question of the Week: Are you concerned at all about flooding?

OSKALOOSA — A large majority of those readers who answered this past week’s Question of the Week: Are you watching World Cup Soccer? said NO.

Twenty-seven — 24 percent — answered YES while 61 — 54 percent said NO and 24 — 21 percent — replied I DON’T CARE.

The Question of the Week poll is not scientific and only reflects the opinions of those Internet users who have chosen to participate. The Question of the Week is just another way the Herald’s readers can voice their opinions about issues that affect them.

This week’s Question of the Week deals with flooding.

During the month of June, the Oskaloosa area received more than 10 inches of rain. It seemed that when it rained, it came down like a monsoon that washed out farm fields, overflowed some roadways and filled some people’s basements with water.

As more water is released from Lake Red Rock and Saylorville Lake into the Des Moines River, towns such as Eddyville have to shore up their defenses to keep the water out.

Is there an end in sight? Is this year’s flooding reminiscent of the flood of 2008?

What do you think?

People can vote on The Herald’s Web site, oskaloosa.com, from Monday through noon on Friday. Then, votes will be tallied and published the following Monday.
