OSKALOOSA — “We want to be the mom-and-pop destination store for shoes,” says Brett Schmidt, area manager of the new Shoe Sensation, which is located in Penn Central Mall.
The location also includes Underground Attitudes, their sister clothing store, which features young, hip, trendy gear. Schmidt added that the chain does not like being in large cities and prefers locating in smaller markets.
“We’ve got shoes for men, women and children, in athletic, casual and dress,” Schmidt pointed out. Among the famous brands carried are Clarkes, Rockport, Deer Stag, Sketchers, Lugs, Annies, Mootsies Tootsies, Mahattan Collection, Doc Martens, Timberlands, Easy Spirit, Life Stride, Keds, K Swiss, Nike, Etnies, New Balance, Phat Farm and Adidas.
Though they’re not an outlet, “buying in quantity allows us to lower our prices,” Schmidt said. Shoe Sensation and Underground Attitudes are owned by Acton Enterprises, which is headquartered out of Jeffersonville, Ind. They own approximately 90 stores and have been in business for over 20 years. Schmidt is in charge of four stores and will be visiting this location every few weeks. Deb Beal is the local manager.
Store hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays and 12 to 5 p.m. on Sundays.
