Fatal Accident east of Oskaloosa

ROSE HILL — A motorist was killed in a three-vehicle accident Tuesday afternoon about a quarter mile west of the Rose Hill turn-off on Highway 92.

Mahaska County officials received a call about the accident around 3:45 p.m. Tuesday. The accident involved a car, a semi and a pickup truck, Sheriff Paul DeGeest said at the scene.

The pickup truck and a car were westbound and the semi was eastbound, DeGeest said. The driver of the car saw the truck hit the semi, the semi flipped on its side and slid and hit the car, he said.

The sheriff believed that three people were involved in the accident. The driver of the truck was pinned in his vehicle and was killed, DeGeest said. The sheriff did not know the identities of the motorists involved in the accident.

The Mahaska County Sheriff’s Department, as well as the What Cheer Fire Department and Mahaska Ambulance, were at the scene. The Iowa State Patrol sent an accident scene investigator and will be in charge of the accident investigation, DeGeest said.
