Home explodes in New Sharon

New Sharon firefighters fought a blaze Sunday afternoon resulting from an apparent explosion at 408 W. Market St., New Sharon. Mahaska County Chief Deputy Sheriff Trevor Wells said that the occupants were not home at the time of the explosion, about 2 p.m. He said the State Fire Marshall’s Office is handling the investigation, and they were on their way.
