Letter to the editor:
Freedom of speech is valued in America. So much so, we as a country still allow the KKK to have public audiences and public events. However, we can only allow only so much free speech. It is illegal to stand in a sold out theater and yell fire if there is no fire. It is also illegal to claim there is a bomb in a building where there is none. It is illegal for the KKK to practice what they preach. There are forms of speech that are not free. Most significantly, the reason for these forms of speech is irrational or rational fear.
The feeling of fear, in the case of racism, is felt by all parties involved. The KKK conveys their fear of African Americans and Hispanics during their public audiences and public events. Fear is the foundation for their hate. And fear of being harmed is the foundation of the rage and helplessness felt by those at the receiving end of racism.
Our country should not and does condone the use of the freedom of speech to support fear or hate. There are laws in place to curtail the use or racism, sexism and other hateful speech. However, it seems that William Penn’s Triple C Radio Show, hosted by Nick Rule, ignored these laws by broadcasting their fear and hate of a minority professor, Doctor Sutha Veerasamy on April 11, 2007.
Most odious were the remarks at the end of the show: Nick Rule and his co hosts awarded Doctor Sutha Veerasamy “The Primitive Politician Award” and made monkey noises on the broadcast. The monkey noises were used in derogatory way to describe a minority man., much like the term Porch Monkey is an insulting term describing a person of African decent.
Nick Rule and his co hosts do not belong on the air if they chose to use racist remarks on their radio show. Triple C Radio Show should be removed from William Penn’s programming. William Penn, like our country, should not condone these remarks.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: William Penn ‘Triple C’ radio host excellent student leader
I am writing to express my support for Nik Rule, host of Triple C on William Penn University’s KIGC radio station. Although the students went a little too far in their public criticism of Dr. Veerasamy on the April 11th Triple C radio show, there were no intentionally racist remarks or sounds.
