LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Voting for ‘gay civil rights bill’ a mistake, writer says

Letter to the editor:

With unprecedented maneuvering, the Democrat-controlled Iowa House added “sexual orientation” and “gender identity” to the list of protected classes in the Iowa Code, making it illegal to discriminate against gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, or transgender individuals. Now employers, landlords, and educational institutions will be vulnerable to anti-discrimination lawsuits and will be forced to accommodate the behavior of this protected class. This legislation also poses a threat to faith-based organizations, which could be forced to violate their moral and religious convictions to comply with the mandates of the law.

Both Eric Palmer and Tom Rielly voted FOR this “gay civil rights bill” (SF 427). I hope their constituents are aware of the actions they’ve been taking which assault Christian values at full force. I submit that it was a BIG MISTAKE to send them to Des Moines to make laws so unfriendly to Iowa’s families, businesses, and faith-based organizations.
