OSKALOOSA —
The Mahaska County Board of Supervisors accepted County Attorney Rose Anne Mefford’s resignation Monday as she takes the bench as a district associate judge.
The supervisors also named former Assistant County Attorney Misty White as the interim county attorney until a new county attorney is selected. White assumed her duties Monday and will be paid on an hourly basis of $40.79 per hour.
The supervisors also decided to choose the new county attorney by advertising the position and appointing the best candidate — the method county supervisors used before to select Mefford.
“It’s probably the quickest way,” Board Chairman Greg Gordy said.
Gordy said an ad would run for about a week in The Oskaloosa Herald and online — until the end of March. Then, applications will be accepted until 4:30 p.m. April 5. During the week of April 8, the supervisors will evaluate candidates and schedule interviews. Then, a new county attorney will be selected at the April 15 supervisor meeting.
In other action, the supervisors approved reclassifying a half-mile stretch of Merino Avenue from 135th Street to 140th Street from a Class B road to a Class C road.
Gordy said the main difference between the two classes of roadway is that Class C roads have a gate across them and property owners have discretion over who has the keys to the gate.
The supervisors also approved installing 660 feet of fence on the west side of the County Farm for $1,340.
Supervisor Mark Doland was absent from the meeting.
