OSKALOOSA —
The snow storm that blew through Oskaloosa Saturday morning did not keep children and their parents from attending the MCRF youth spring sports sign-up day at Penn Central Mall.
The Mahaska Community Recreation Foundation teamed up with the local Little League and the Mahaska County Soccer Club to coordinate the event. It’s the event is in its third year, MCRF Executive Director Sherry Vavra said.
“We want to introduce people to what recreation we have in the community,” Vavra siad.
The event began at 10 a.m. and wrapped up around 2 p.m. Vavra said the snow did not impact participation this year.
“We were worried about that, but the community is here,” she said. “We’re very pleased with the turnout. It’s been steady since opening.”
Kandis DeBruin, of MCRF, did a lot of the event planning. She said there were a total of 11 sports and recreation organizations with booths at the event.
“It’s a pretty good crowd,” she said.
DeBruin said she began planning the event about six weeks ago.
