OSKALOOSA —
This will help them work efficiently.
The Christian Opportunity Center’s Oskaloosa location recently earned a $2,583 grant to use for a tri-folder and a shredder machine to be used in their operation. The grant came from the Mahaska County Community Foundation and is just one of numerous grants the MCCF provided this year. Other grant recipients included the Oskaloosa Police Department for an internship program, as well as the Mahaska Community Recreation Foundation for new batting cages at the Lacey Recreation Complex.
“We’re just extremely thankful,” said Patty Zylstra, public information director at the COC.
Some of the projects completed at the COC’s Oskaloosa location include digital document production. Mark McMaines, safety transportation manager at the COC, said the new shredder will help in efforts to recycle shredded paper documents after digital copies are put on CDs.
“We’ll use them to make our projects go a lot faster,” McMaines said.
McMaines noted that the tri-folding machine will help speed up any mass mailing projects the COC may be given by area businesses.
Kim Koellner, program manager at the Oskaloosa COC location, noted that the facility has been in the community since 1989.
“We provide vocational support skills to individuals with disabilities,” said Koellner. “We work with individuals to help them meet their needs in many different areas.”
These vocational skills play a very important role in the community, said Koellner.
“They are valued in the community,” Koellner said.
