OSKALOOSA —
Several families gathered at the baseball field in Edmundson Park Saturday morning for a high-tech scavenger hunt.
The Mahaska County Conservation Board and the Mahaska Wellness Coalition teamed up for a Third Saturday Walk that featured geocaching along the Oskaloosa Recreation Trail.
“This is a high-tech scavenger hunt,” MCCB Director Dave Sedivec told the audience. There are seven geocaches along the recreation trail in Edmundson Park, he added.
Geocaches range in size from matchboxes to ammunition cans and they are cleverly hidden. Geocaches are hidden all over the world and their locations are kept at a Web site. People searching for geocaches are given clues and they use Global Positioning System receivers or apps on their smart phones to track down the caches.
“It’s a fun way to be out in nature and still play with your high-tech toy,” Sedivec said.
