They’re riding for the research.
Edward Jones Financial Advisors Alan Fender and David Ahmad will participate in the Tour de Ted — Ride the Wire, a multi-state bike tour that will raise funds for cancer research.
Fender noted that Ted Jones, the second managing partner for Edward Jones, passed away after a battle with cancer. Fender noted that Jones was very charity-minded throughout his career and that one of his causes was a St. Louis organization called Pedal for the Cause.
Ahmad noted that the ride itself is a 13-day tour, starting in Colorado Springs, Colo., on Sept. 23. The tour finishes in St. Louis with a few stops along the way.
“I’m going to do a couple days in Kansas and Alan’s going to do a couple days in Missouri,” explained Ahmad.
Ahmad said he is an active cyclist, logging between 150 to 175 miles each week. He said his two days on the tour will include 50-mile treks each day, which he said he could handle.
Both Ahmad and Fender have family members that have had to deal with cancer. Each of them have also had clients that they worked with at Edward Jones who themselves have had cancer or have had friends or family who’ve experienced cancer.
“It’s important for us because of the people we know and the people we work with,” Ahmad said, noting that many other Edward Jones firms have people participating in the Tour de Ted.
Fender said that, when Edward Jones first started, one of their first offices was in Pueblo, Colo. At that time, there was communication made between Pueblo, Colo., and St. Louis by telegraph wire, said Fender. The ride will include a stop in Pueblo, Colo., and 12 other stops on its way to St. Louis in tribute to that first communication route via telegraph wire.
