OSKALOOSA —
Oskaloosa native/Colorado pianist Jeff Van Devender returns to Oskaloosa’s Central United Methodist Church to present a piano concert of worship featuring his repertoire of compositions and hymn arrangements.
This is his sixth appearance at CUMC in the last dozen years and will take place at 7 p.m. Sunday, June 27. Van Devender is a 1980 graduate of Oskaloosa High School.
CDs will be available for sale at the concert and a free-will offering will be taken, of which a portion will be contributed to a mission of the church’s choosing.
Van Devender’s music is sometimes interpreted as … a coffeehouse for your spirit. His piano melodies have been described as a blending of classical, jazz and rock influences with a touch of soul. Listen as you are transported to another time and place. Solo performances take an improvisational journey sending the listener through a timeless wave of inspired spontaneous melody never before heard. It is these moments of spontaneous inspiration that have delighted audiences as they witness his music’s continuous evolution.
Van Devender is the pianist/organist for First United Methodist Church in Glenwood Springs, Colo., and he is also a music educator in western Colorado, serving on the state Assembly of Colorado Music Educators Association. His music has been heard around the world with four different compositions achieving the No. 1 Contemporary Instrumental listing on SoundClick, as well as being featured in several different educational/promotional DVDs.
This year, Van Devender will return to YMCA of the Rockies for a second appearance at the annual Summer Christian Concert Series as part of his summer tour, which includes him performing in churches and other venues throughout Colorado, Illinois, Iowa and Wisconsin. Previous engagements have seen Van Devender as the in-house entertainer at premier Colorado resorts, including the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park and the St. Regis Hotel in Aspen, among others.
