OSKALOOSA —
The Mall Parking Lot Improvement Project moved forward at Monday’s Oskaloosa City Council meeting.
The city council approved two agenda items related to the project including a resolution approving the plans, specifications, form of contract and estimated costs for the project. A resolution approving awarding the contract for the project to TK Concrete Inc. in an amount not to exceed $260,336.00 and authorize City Manager Michael Schrock Jr. to utilize an additional 10 percent ($26,000) for project contingency was also approved. Public hearings were held on these items.
According to the agenda explanation for the first item related to the mall lot project, Garden & Associates prepared plans and specifications for the “construction of the east Mall parking lot and realigning High Avenue West.” It also notes that the project includes new concrete pavement on the parking lot and the public street, sidewalks, curb and gutter. This includes gutter with intakes and storm drains.
The agenda item explanation also notes that when the project is awarded, the work on it is proposed to begin mid April to early May, taking weather into consideration. It is anticipated the work will be completed in 45 working days.
The project on the mall parking lot is included in the Fiscal Year 2013 budget approved by the city council in the amount of $450,000, according to the agenda item explanation.
In other business, the council:
• Approved a request from The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life of Mahaska County Committee for Relay for Life event.
• Approved the appointment of Andrew Holmberg to the Civil Service Commission.
• Approved a resolution authorizing City Manager Michael Schrock Jr. to execute and deliver all necessary documents in connection with the Transportation Alternate Program application for new sidewalks as recommended under the Safe Routes to School Plan.
• Approved a resolution adopting a revised fee schedule for the city of Oskaloosa without the $25 per day for bandstand rental from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
