OSKALOOSA —
She expresses herself in a variety of ways.
On Tuesday evening, William Penn University’s Foyer Gallery played host to a local artist with many talents. Julie Ver Steegh, of rural Mahaska County, works for Musco Sports Lighting by day, but uses her spare time to paint, take photos and explore charcoal drawing, among other artistic endeavors.
Ver Steegh said that after doing an art show at Tassle Ridge Winery in Leighton recently, she was ask to display her work at Penn.
“This represents a lot of recent work,” said Ver Steegh, who is on the board for Fine Arts and Cultural Events of Mahaska County or FACE. “I have some pieces here that were even done in college and high school.”
Ver Steegh’s art incorporates many different subjects including wildlife, self-portrait and even an ode to Vincent van Gogh’s famous “The Starry Night” painting.
