OSKALOOSA —
Since there’s snow on local golf courses, many local residents enjoyed a round of mini-putt golf at Penn Central Mall this weekend as the YMCA held its Second Annual Osky Winter Classic.
Local businesses each sponsored a hole on the 18-hole course set up in the mall’s Center Court.
“It’s been going great,” Mini-Putt Event Chairwoman Linda Crookham-Hansen said Friday evening.
The Osky Winter Open began Friday with a golf tournament at noon and Oskaloosa Middle School students enjoyed a Fun Night from 6 to 9 p.m. In between the events and on Saturday morning, people could come to the course and play a round of golf, for $5 earch.
“The middle schoolers beat last year’s numbers by a lot,” Crookham-Hansen said.
The noon golf tournament was an inaugural event. There were 20 two-person teams, Crookham-Hansen said.
“We were very pleased with that for the first year,” she said.
Most of the businesses that sponsored holes this past year came back this year to sponsor them again, Crookham-Hansen said.
In all, participation was up this year, compared to this past year, she said.
“It’s a fun event for the community,” Crookham-Hansen said.
Crookham-Hansen said the YMCA Board and event committee were pleased with the support shown by the hole sponsors and the efforts they took to decorate their respective mini-putt holes.
