The United Way of Mahaska County is excited to be celebrating its 50th year of serving Mahaska County, and they would like you to help them commemorate the occasion.
The United Way will host an open house Wednesday, Feb. 20, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the United Way Building, 500 High Ave. W.
Stop by for 5 minutes or the whole two hours, and help the United Way remember the past while celebrating the work the United Way is doing today as they strive to improve lives for a better tomorrow.
Light refreshments will be served.

William Penn University officials opened the doors to the new Market Street Hall dormitory for the public to view Friday morning.

Members of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars conduct a flag retirement ceremony at the VFW post Friday evening. American Legion Sgt. At Arms Fred Bridges said the veterans retired about 500 U.S., state and military service flags. They conduct the ceremony once a year on Flag Day. A ceremony is conducted before the old, tattered flags are burned, he said.

Man faces theft charges for grave markers
An Oskaloosa man has a preliminary hearing today in Mahaska County District Court for allegedly stealing veterans’ grave markers at two rural cemeteries.
