OSKALOOSA —
They’re getting a feel for the facility.
Iowa Barnstormers coaches, along with General Manager John Pettit, toured the Penn Activities Center Thursday morning. The professional arena league football team will practice at the PAC from Feb. 19 through March 3.
Barnstormers Head Coach Mike Hohensee said he’s visited the PAC a few times before Thursday.
“I’ve been pleased with every visit when we’ve come here,” said Hohensee. “The people have been fantastic and I learn something new about the facility every time I come here.”
Hohensee and other Barnstormers coaching staff took a look at the PAC’s football field and locker rooms during their visit.
Hohensee said those at William Penn University who’ve worked with the Iowa Barnstormers have been very welcoming to his team.
“They’ve listened to our requests, our needs, and from the time we left those first meetings and went back to Des Moines, they were on it,” said Hohensee, noting the outstanding work of Shannon Saunders, an administrative assistant to the Barnstormers and William Penn alum.
Saunders works for William Penn as a graduate assistant for the athletic department.
The team are scheduled to make an appearance 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, at the Penn Central Mall. Their first practice at the PAC will be that morning. Hohensee said the Barnstormers will make other community appearances during their two-week stay in Oskaloosa.
“We’re definitely going to get around in the community,” said Hohensee, noting that there will be visits to places like schools, churches and the hospital. “We’re hoping to make this our training camp home.”
