Arterburn guilty of first-degree murder

OSKALOOSA — After a full day of deliberation Wednesday, the jury in the first-degree murder trial of Brad Arterburn found him guilty.

Arterburn, 27, of Oskaloosa, has been charged with the first-degree murder of his mother’s boyfriend, Robert Henry “Hank” Horovitz, 58, of Davenport, on June 19, 2011. Arterburn entered a plea of not guilty in Mahaska County Court July 12, 2011.

The jury began deliberation around 8:50 a.m. and delivered their unanimous judgment at about 4:40 p.m.

Judge Lucy Gamon ordered the conduct of a pre-sentence investigation, which will take about 12 weeks to complete. After completion of the pre-sentence investigation, a sentencing date will be set, she said.
