OSKALOOSA —
Five Oskaloosa families are homeless today after a fire ravaged their apartment building at 732 High Ave. W. Sunday night.
These families are being helped by the Red Cross and Mahaska County Homeless Coalition with lodging.
No injuries or fatalities occurred as a result of this fire that caused the apartment building and Precise Imaging building to be declared total losses.
Oskaloosa Fire Chief Mark Neff said firefighters were dispatched to the scene at 5:20 p.m. and remained there until around 11:30 p.m.
Fighters from Cedar Township, Eddyville and New Sharon provided aid on the scene. A total of 34 fire fighters battled the blaze.
Neff said members of the Oskaloosa Water and Street departments, Oskaloosa Police and Iowa Highway Patrol worked together on the scene.
The fire remains under investigation today, Dec. 13.

This tree, which stands in front of the SHARE Iowa building at 1102 South Seventh Street this morning, appears damaged from the storms that moved through the area overnight. According to the National Weather Service, there are slight chances for thunderstorms in the Oskaloosa area today and tonight, as well as Friday. However, greater chances for thunderstorms remain for Sunday, Sunday night and Monday, according to the NWS.
