OSKALOOSA —
A Fairfield man died Thursday afternoon as the result of a two-vehicle accident on Highway 92 about 7 1/2 miles west of Oskaloosa.
Derrikk Crawford, 23, of Fairfield, was killed in an accident involving a 2005 Jeep Liberty and a semi tractor, according to an Iowa State Patrol accident report.
At 1:05 p.m. Thursday, a Jeep driven by Crawford was traveling east on Highway 92 and a semi driven by Shane Mock, 25, of West Plains, Mo., was traveling west. Crawford’s vehicle crossed the centerline into the westbound lane and struck the semi head-on. The semi jackknifed and came to rest in the north ditch. Crawford’s vehicle was pushed backwards and into the south ditch, where it came to rest on its side, according to the accident report.
Crawford was transported by ambulance to Mahaska Health Partnership and was pronounced dead. He was wearing his seat belt, the accident report stated.
The Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa DOT Enforcement and Maintenance and rural firefighters assisted the Iowa State Patrol at the scene.

This tree, which stands in front of the SHARE Iowa building at 1102 South Seventh Street this morning, appears damaged from the storms that moved through the area overnight. According to the National Weather Service, there are slight chances for thunderstorms in the Oskaloosa area today and tonight, as well as Friday. However, greater chances for thunderstorms remain for Sunday, Sunday night and Monday, according to the NWS.
