Zaun dissatisfied with D.C.

By DUANE NOLLEN

OSKALOOSA — Brad Zaun is running for the Republican nomination to challenge 3rd District Democratic Rep. Leonard Boswell because he doesn’t like what he’s seeing in Washington, D.C.

“I can’t take it anymore, what’s going on in Washington, D.C.,” Zaun said in a campaign stop at Smokey Row Saturday morning.

Zaun said the stimulus spending in Washington is creating a debt that will be passed on to our children and grandchildren.

“I’m very frustrated with the representation we have in Washington,” he added.

Zaun said he respects Boswell’s service to the nation, but he believes Boswell votes more with Nancy Pelosi than he does with the people of Iowa.

Zaun said the current “Cap and Trade” bill in Washington is more like a “Cap and Tax” bill.

Zaun said he’d use the experience as a hardware store owner and the mayor of Urbandale and use it in Washington to improve government. When he owned a hardware store, Zaun said he hired a person just to take care of all the paperwork the government generated. As mayor of Urbandale, he made all city employees take a two-day customer service class, cut red tape for developers and dropped property taxes. As a result, there was job growth in Urbandale, he said.

“Government can’t create jobs,” he said.

Zaun, who is now a state senator, pledged that he would never make a decision based on re-election. He argued that all incumbents in Washington, D.C., are vulnerable this election year.

“I’ll always listen to you,” he told the audience.
