Supervisors approve road projects
OSKALOOSA — The Mahaska County Board of Supervisors approved two road projects during its Tuesday meeting.
The first project is the replacement of a bridge with a box culvert on Galeston Avenue, said Mike Rodwell of the Secondary Roads’ Engineering Department. The project is expected to cost $110,000 and is part of a federal bridge program.
The second project is the paving of about two miles of County Road V-13 south of Rose Hill. The $1.25 million project is expected to be funded by federal stimulus money, Rodwell said. Federal lawmakers will vote on the latest round of federal stimulus spending this month, he said.
County Engineer Jerry Nusbaum said there will not be a local match for the V-13 project. This was a project that originally was a Farm to Market project, but it couldn’t be let. So, it was moved to the stimulus program, and since it was an early project proposal, it was approved for stimulus funding, he said.
The projects will be let on May 18, Rodwell said.
In other action, the supervisors singed a letter of support for the Southern Iowa Fair so the organization could apply for USDA Rural Development Association funds.
