Accident claims life of Ottumwa man

OSKALOOSA — An Ottumwa man was killed in a two-vehicle accident Thursday afternoon on Highway 63 on the southern edge of Oskaloosa.

Ademir Alberto Sanchez, 32, of Ottumwa, died as a result of a car-semi collision at 1:49 p.m.

According to an accident report from the Iowa State Patrol, Sanchez was traveling north on Highway 63 when he lost control of his 1997 Chevy Malibu. The car crossed the centerline and into the path of a southbound semi tractor/trailer driven by Kenneth G. Chilton, 52, of Lovilia.

The semi struck the car broadside and both vehicles came to rest on the travel portion of the roadway, according to the accident report.

Sanchez was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident. Sanchez was transported to Mahaska Hospital by ambulance, the report stated.

The Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office, the Oskaloosa Police Department and local EMS and firefighters assisted the Iowa State Patrol at the accident scene.
