OSKALOOSA — Three people from Oskaloosa have been charged with conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine, according to a release from the Oskaloosa Police Department.
David Dean Shaffer, 44, was charged with conspiracy to manufacture more than five grams of methamphetamine, possession of precursors to manufacture methamphetamine (four counts), delivery of a counterfeit controlled substance (methamphetamine) and driving under suspension. He was also charged with delivery of a counterfeit controlled substance represented to be methamphetamine from an unrelated investigation.

According to the release, on March 15 at approximately 3:05 a.m., officers stopped a car at 406 N. D St. in Oskaloosa. The driver, David Dean Shaffer, was arrested for driving under suspension, a simple misdemeanor. A search of the vehicle revealed a reactionary vessel containing more than five grams of an ether mixture consistent with the manufacture of methamphetamine, according to the release. The investigation led to a storage unit in Oskaloosa, which contained the remains of a clandestine methamphetamine laboratory.
The Iowa Department of Narcotics Enforcement was called to assist with the investigation. Samples of the contents were analyzed at the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigations Laboratory, according to the release. The investigation concluded that Silvers was involved with the manufacture of methamphetamine.
The investigation is ongoing and further charges may be filed, according to the release. The Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office and the Mahaska County Sheriff’s Posse assisted with the investigation.
All the suspects are being held in the county jail. Shaffer is being held on a $35,000 bond. Silvers is being held on a $16,300 bond and is also being held on two Wapello County warrants for harassment. Wilson is being held on a $30,000 bond.
