OSKALOOSA — The 43rd annual AAUW Used Book Sale gets under way Thursday, Oct. 2, in Center Court at Penn Central Mall in Oskaloosa.
Times for the sale are noon to 8 p.m., Thursday; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday; and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Saturday’s sale is a bag sale, when a grocery bag of books costs $3. After 3 p.m. Saturday, until 3 p.m. Sunday, books will be left at the mall and are free.
Area residents and libraries have donated thousands of used books, puzzles, tapes and magazines. Non-fiction books are sorted by subject matter; fiction is sorted by paperback and hardback, mystery, science-fiction, westerns and romance. There are also many children’s books.
Donations may still be dropped off at the mall on Wednesday, Oct. 1. College textbooks older than 1995, general magazines and condensed books are discouraged. For more information, contact Dianne Van Gorp at 673-7864.
Books have been accumulating since last year’s sale in warehouse space donated by Share Iowa. Members of the Oskaloosa branch of American Association of University Women have sorted them throughout the summer
Proceeds from the sale are used for national AAUW fellowships for women and local scholarships to William Penn University, as well as for community projects promoting education and equity for women and girls. Membership in AAUW is open to anyone with an AA or four-year college degree. All meetings are open to the public.
