Airport signs five-year lease for nearly $900,000

OSKALOOSA — The Oskaloosa Municipal Airport’s funds will receive a boost after re-bidding the lease for its 520 acres of farm ground on Monday, Nov. 3.

Mark and Trisha Haines placed a high bid of $338 per acre during an Oskaloosa Airport Commission special meeting. The contract is for five years and is adjustable annually. The current lease is for approximately $165 per acre.

Airport Commission Chairman Steve Brown said he had been planning for $250 per acre for this year’s budget. He said that was a conservative estimate, but he was still surprised by how high the bidding reached.

“We’re just really pleased,” Brown said. “It’s a very timely thing to have happen because we want to replenish our account.”

The airport commission had taken on several projects in the last two years, with the biggest being the installation of a parallel taxiway.
