OSKALOOSA —
The Mahaska County Board of Supervisors approved the membership list of a consultant selection committee for the Southeast Connector Route Location Study at its meeting Monday.
The committee has five members: Supervisor Ken Rozenboom, Beth Danowsky of the Mahaska Community Development Group, Akilish Pal of the city of Oskaloosa, and County Engineer Jerry Nusbaum and Michael Rodwell of the county staff.
The estimated cost of the location study is $375,000. The study will include a definition of Highway 63/Highway 163 access, route location between Highway 63/163 and 35th Street and environmental impacts.
Rozenboom asked Nusbaum when the committee will begin work.
“Soon,” Nusbaum said.
In other action, the supervisors approved a 28E agreement between the county and Eddyville for law enforcement patrols by the sheriff’s office. The supervisors also approved an election security policy.
The supervisors also heard a presentation by Mark Reinig of Iowa State University. Reinig said Iowa State officials will hold a public meeting on Oct. 8 at the ISU Extension office in Oskaloosa concerning economic development issues.
The supervisors also voted to table a public hearing on the vacation of a roadway right of way on Osburn Avenue near Highway 23 until Nov. 19.
Cablevey Conveyors wants to expand parking and semi access at its facility and needs about .89 acres of right-of-way land. County officials were uncertain if the county could give the land to Cablevey or the original owner of the ground, Allied Gas and Chemical Co. Inc. Now, both companies have time to discuss the right-of-way issue before the supervisors hold the hearing in November.
