OSKALOOSA —
The chili simmered and the judges judged Friday evening at the Oskaloosa Educational Foundation’s chili cook-off was held in the small gym at Oskaloosa High School.
The event is an OEF fund-raiser.
William Penn University took third place in the chili cook-off, while Community 1st Credit Union earned second place. Jennifer Sheets earned first place in the chili cook-off.
Sheets said she used several meats in her chili including ground steak, sausage, and beef.
“There’s in an abundance of meat,” noted Sheets, while discussing her chili recipe.
This isn’t the first year Sheets has competed in the chili cook-off.
“I got second last year, so this year it kind of feels good to move up one,” said Sheets.
Those competing in the cook-off included the Oskaloosa Board of Education, Jennifer Sheets, Oskaloosa School Administrators, Clow Valve Company, Sarah DeRonde, Community 1st Credit Union, Oskaloosa Police Department, Chrissy Anderson and Kelli Steil, William Penn University and Kevin Lowry.
The cook-off was sponsored by Van Maanen, Siestra & Meyer, Bank Iowa, Oskaloosa Board of Education, Clow Valve Company, Walton Insurance Agency, The Oskaloosa Herald, Community 1st Credit Union, Iowa State Police Association, Kelli Steil of State Farm Insurance, William Penn University, Swim’s Sports, Mahaska Drug, Midwest One Bank, Musco Lighting and County Attorney Rose Anne Mefford.
