OSKALOOSA —
Arlene Barnes, 87, of Oskaloosa passed away Saturday afternoon, July 21, 2012, at the Mahaska Health Partnership Hospice Services Serenity House.
Arlene Virginia Barnes, daughter of Gerald and Susie (Knupp) Walker, was born, Oct. 19, 1924, in New Sharon, Iowa. She attended school in Barnes City and Montezuma. At age 18 she moved to Phoenix, Ariz., where she worked at the Goodyear Aircraft Plant during the war. She married Harold P. Barnes in 1945 in Mesa, Ariz. They moved back to Oskaloosa in 1964 and she worked at Big Smith overall factory for many years.
She loved spending time with her children and their families and working with crafts and reading. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary.
Arlene’s family includes three children: a daughter, Virginia Louise of Oskaloosa; two sons: Harold (Connie) and Bill (Sharon) Barnes of Oskaloosa; a sister, Pauline Davis of Scottsdale, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Arlene was preceded in death by her husband Harold of 34 years; an infant son, Timothy Lee; three brothers: Kenneth, Junior, and Bob Walker; a sister, Maxine Harris; and special friend, Ralph Dickerson.
Funeral services for Arlene will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 25, 2012, at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel with Pastor Alvern Boetsma of the Good News Chapel officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery near Eddyville. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., Tuesday at the funeral chapel; the family will be present from 5-7 p.m. to greet visitors.
