OSKALOOSA —
Steve W. Martin, 59, of Oskaloosa, died Wednesday evening,
July 4, 2012, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. He was
born Sept. 25, 1952, at Oceanside, California, the son of Kenneth
W. and Lorelei Atkinson Martin. He graduated from the Oskaloosa High
School with the class of 1970. On June 12, 1971, Steve was united in
marriage to Claudia Brandtner at Oskaloosa. Soon afterwards, he began
working for K & D Contractors, and later operated K & D Electric in
Oskaloosa. Steve was an active member of St. Mary’s Church, the Elks,
the Eagles, the American Legion, and V.F.W. He loved to golf, and
years ago, was an avid bowler.
His family includes his wife, Claudia Martin of Oskaloosa; a son
and his wife, Chad and Dyanne Martin of Johnston, and a daughter,
Katie Martin of Chicago, Illinois; two grandchildren: Brittany and
Tyler Martin; a brother and his wife: Jim and Cathy Martin of Steven’s
Point, Wisconsin; a sister and her husband: Joette and Robert Stout of
rural New Sharon; many nieces and nephews; and a grand dog, Sophie.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother,
Jeffrey Scott Martin; and his in-laws, Claude and Kathleen Brandtner.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held Saturday, July 7, 2012
at 10 a.m. in the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oskaloosa with the
Reverend Jeffry Belger officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s
Cemetery at Oskaloosa. Visitation will begin at the Bates Funeral
Chapel on Friday, July 6, 2012, after 12 noon, and a Rosary will be
recited Friday at 4:15 p.m., and visitation with the family present to
follow from 4:45 – 7:30 p.m. A memorial has been established to the
Steve Martin Memorial Fund to be used for numerous pet projects of
Steve with different charitable organizations and groups.
