RICHARD ‘DICK’ CONGER

SEPT. 22, 1929 — JULY 2, 2012

OLLIE — Richard “Dick” Conger, 82, of  Ollie, died Monday, July 2, 2012, at the University of Iowa  Hospital in Iowa  City. He was born Sept. 22, 1929 in Ollie the son of Farris and Laura Sipe  Conger. He  graduated from Ollie  High School.  In 1951 he  joined the US Army and was stationed in Bamberg, Germany. While  in Germany  he met Margaret  Seelmann and they were united in marriage on May 22, 1954 at Bamberg.  In late 1954 he returned to the U.S.  with his “war trophies”, his wife and infant daughter Linda.  Following his  return home he went to work at Kaser Rock Quarry and was  foreman of the sand  plant at Harvey,  Iowa until his  retirement in 1992. Following  his retirement he worked some for the Winn brothers and did  some mechanic work.  He enjoyed NASCAR, fishing, hunting, mushroom hunting,  watching American Pickers on TV and loved Ford automobiles. Dick was a member of  the V.F.W. and  American Legion in Richland.

He  is survived by his wife: Margaret  Conger of Ollie; 4 daughters: Linda Wise, Lisa (& Gordon)  Heady, Sonya  Sharp all of Fairfield and Peggy (& Daren) Mathias of  Richland; 3 sons: Bob  (& Lynn) Conger of Fremont, John (& Diane) Conger of Wausau, Wisconsin,  and Richard (& Jessica) Conger, Jr. of White House,  Tennessee; 16  grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and a brother: Francis  Conger of Keswick.

He  was preceded in death by his parents; a  granddaughter: Tiffany Renee Sharp; a son-in-law: Chuck Sharp;  2 brothers: Ronald “Butch” and Harold Conger; and 2 sisters: Shirley Ann  Andeway and Velma  Jean Conger.

As  was his wish, his body has been  cremated and a memorial service will be held Friday, July 6,  2012 at 10 a.m.  at the Fremont Funeral Chapel with Reverend Harlan Van Voorst  officiating.  Visitation will begin Thursday after 12 noon in the Fremont  Funeral Chapel and  the family will be present at the funeral chapel from 5  until 7 p.m. to  greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to the  Richard Conger  Memorial Fund.
