HELEN CELIA MALOY

MARCH 2, 1926 — FEB. 2, 2013

EDDYVILLE — Helen Celia Maloy, age 86, of Allison, Iowa, formerly of Oskaloosa and Eddyville, died Feb. 2, 2013.  Helen was born March 2, 1926 in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the daughter of John and Ella (Lobberecht) Den Hartog.  She married Marvin R. Maloy on Sept. 14, 1947; he preceded her in death on Nov. 30, 1995.

She grew up in Oskaloosa and Eddyville.  She attended grade school in Oskaloosa and graduated from Eddyville High School, Class of 1944. Helen worked at the Eddyville Telephone Office, her parent’s grocery store and JC Penney.  Helen and her husband owned and operated Maloy Feed in Eddyville for 34 years.  Helen was a member of the United Methodist Church since 1937.  She loved doing counted cross stich, crafts, going out to eat with friends and playing cards with the “girls”.  She also loved to go shopping.

Surviving are a son: Dennis (Deb) Maloy of Allison, Iowa; a daughter: Diana (Jim) Williams of Des Moines; three grandchildren: Tracy Maloy of Kansas City, Trent (Tonya) Maloy of Ottumwa and Casey Hayes of New Port Richley, FL; three great-grandchildren: Sabrina, Michaela and Dylan.  Helen is also survived by five step grandchildren: Tim Pierson, David (Lori) Pierson, D (Chris) Lyons, Paula (Larry) Gehrls and Chris Williams; several step great-grandchildren and several step great great-grandchildren.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers: John Jr., Lawrence and Kenneth Den Hartog; and one grandson: Cody Hayes.

Funeral services for Helen will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, at the Eddyville United Methodist Church of Eddyville, with Rev. Jason Gutzman officiating.  Burial will follow services at Highland Cemetery of Eddyville.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, at the Eddyville Funeral Chapel.  Helen’s family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

A memorial has been established to the Eddyville United Methodist Church of Eddyville.
