Leona Ruth Uitermarkt Ver Meer was born Oct.5, 1920, to Gerrit and Elizabeth Verros Uitermarket near Otley, Iowa, the youngest of seven children. She went to her heavenly home on Friday, Oct. 19, 2012, at the Pella Regional Health Center — Long Term Care at the age of ninety-two.
Leona received her early education at the Clay Township Rural Schools. She was united in marriage with Clarence Ver Meer on Aug. 27, 1948, and the home of her parents near Harvey, Iowa. The couple first lived on Clarence’s family farm and later moved to town.
She was a faithful member of the First Christian Reformed church. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, travelling, cooking, and driving around the countryside with Clarence.
Those left to cherish her memory are: her sister, Julia Kamerick of Pella and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, Clarence, in 1998; and her siblings:Matthew Uitermarkt, Dorothy Van Essen, Harriet De Penning, Floyd Uitermarket, and Gertrude Van Den Heuvel.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Pella. Visitation will take place at the funeral home starting at 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will take place at the Oakwood Cemetery in Pella.
