OSKALOOSA —
David Vinton, 70, of Oskaloosa, died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2012, at the Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Iowa City.
He was born March 1, 1942, at Washington, Iowa, the son of William David and Margaret Votruba Vinton. He worked as a heavy equipment operator. He retired from Bowers in Sigourney due to ill health. He enjoyed building and flying radio controlled airplanes, riding motorcycles and decorating cakes for special occasions. He truly loved spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his children, Belinda Whitehead, of Lebanon, Mo., Bernard (and Michelle) Vinton, of Oskaloosa, Kim Barnhill, of Jonesboro, Ark., Amy Vinton, of Arkansas, Charlie (and Kristina) Vinton, of Phoenix, Ariz., and Randy (and Melissa) Vinton, of Montezuma; 12 grandchildren, Colter, Alyssa, Kyle, Chelsea, Ashley, Cory, Eliza, Logan, Eric, Gregory, Raven (and John), and David (and Tiffany) and David and Tiffany’s children, Kaydance and Brayden; 2 sisters, Susan Manning, of Washington, and Patty Matthis, of Tiffin; and a brother, Dennis Straube, of Ottumwa; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son in infancy, Bill Vinton; and a sister, Nancy Barr.
Visitation will begin Friday morning after 10 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa; the family will be at the funeral chapel on Friday evening from 5-7 to greet friends and relatives. As was David’s wish his body will be cremated following the visitation. Graveside memorial services and burial of the urn will be held Saturday, Aug. 24, at 11 a.m. at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. A procession will form at 9:30 a.m. at the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa for those wishing to go to the cemetery. You are welcome to ride your motorcycle in the procession as David’s last ride to Washington will be on a motorcycle. Memorials may be made to Mahaska Hospice.
