J. BERYL KEITH

SEPT. 8, 1918 — JUNE 5, 2012

The Oskaloosa Herald

SEATTLE, Wash. — Beryl passed away on June 5.

She was born in Given on Sept. 8, 1918, and was raised on a farm with her older sister, Edith, born in 1912 ( d-1999) and brother Max born in 1911 (d-1996). Her mother, Grace, died in 1992 at 104 years of age. Her father died unexpectedly in the early ‘40s. During The Depression, the family lost their farm and moved to Oskaloosa. When they were older, both Beryl and Edith taught school in surrounding communities.

Beryl and her sister moved to the West Coast in the late ‘40s where Beryl married Samuel E. Keith. They had one son, Samuel Starr Keith. Beryl began to work for Alaska Airlines in 1953 and continued to work for that company until her retirement in 1985. After retirement, she pursued interests in gardening and local politics. She and her husband moved to downtown Seattle and spent several years helping her sister with medical problems until Edith’s death. Her husband, Sam, passed away in 2005. Since then, Beryl has fought the impact of Parkinson’s Disease until her death on June 5, 2012. She was professional in her career, bright, very brave and loving and will be greatly missed.

Remembrances can be sent to Defenders of Wildlife.
