Evelyn D. Thompson, 90, was called to heaven on Friday, Jan. 20, 2012, surrounded by her family at Bright Kavanagh House in Des Moines.
A Memorial Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, at Lutheran Church of the Cross in Altoona with burial of cremated remains at Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa at a later date.
Evelyn was born Nov. 19, 1921, in Tecumseh, Mo., to Vess A. and Ethel B. (Killion) Daugherty. She was co-owner of Iowa Travel in Des Moines and E.T. Travel in Oskaloosa. Evelyn was a member of Lutheran Church of the Cross in Altoona. She enjoyed traveling with her bus tours and loved spending time with her family and grandkids.
Evelyn is survived by her five children, Jerry Cowart, of Tucson, Ariz., Janice (Ron) Funk, of Oskaloosa, Sharon Judson, of Des Moines, Cheryl J. (Ronnie) Turner, of Ankeny, and Arthur D. Thompson, of Bondurant; 9 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Jackie V. (Connie) Daugherty, of Tecumseh, Mo., and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her two husbands, Joe Tom Cowart and Les Thompson; daughter-in-law, Loretta Cowart; son-in-law, Derald Judson and grandson, Brett Cowart.
