JOHN W. VISSER

MARCH 23, 1937 — MARCH 10, 2013

DAVENPORT — John W. Visser, 75, a resident of Davenport, died Sunday, March 10, 2013, at Trinity, Bettendorf, surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral services to celebrate his life will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, March 13, at Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, downtown Davenport.  Burial will take place in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 12 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

John William Visser was born on March 23, 1937, one of eight children born to William and Cornelia (Hols) Visser. He was united in marriage to Thelma Davis on Feb. 8, 1958. John enjoyed a 42-year career with Blackhawk Foundry in Davenport, retiring in 2008.

John appreciated nature, tending to his flowers and feeding squirrels and birds. He enjoyed staying fit, making exercise a part of his daily routine.  John also enjoyed tinkering with cars and John Wayne movies.

Memorials may be made to the family to establish a memorial in John’s honor at a later date.

John is survived by his children: Mike (Judy) Visser, Oskaloosa, and Debbie Valle, Davenport; grandchildren: Ralphie Valle, Shyanne (Kevin) Foreman, Mikey Visser, Stacy (Robbie) Garrow, John (Lisa) Visser; nine great-grandchildren; siblings: Richard Visser, Martin Visser, both of Oskaloosa, and Mary (Chet) Lanphier, Port Orchard, Wash.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and one brother.
