LETHA HENDRICKS

OSKALOOSA — Letha M. Hendricks, 92, of Oskaloosa, died Monday, Oct. 15, 2012, at Crystal Heights Care Center in Oskaloosa. 

She was born Feb. 1, 1920, at Indianapolis, Iowa, the daughter of Pearl and Sylvia Green Thatcher. Early on she worked on the family farm. She was united in marriage to Charles Ellsworth and later divorced. On July 20, 1949, Letha was united in marriage to Cecil Hendricks at Sigourney. Cecil died Nov. 3, 1993. Letha was a homemaker, and delighted in caring for family and home. She enjoyed gardening, flowers and visiting with people. She was a very giving and kind-spirited person. She was special.

Her family includes her daughters and their husbands, Sherry and Lee Pfeiffer and Miola “Pic” and Paul Lanphier all of Oskaloosa; a son, Terry Ellsworth, of Ottumwa; 13 grandchildren; many great- and great-great-grandchildren; and a brother and his wife, Glen “Chub” and Arlene Thatcher, of North English.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Jesse Ellsworth; a stillborn daughter, Charlotte; two brothers, Vere and Cleo Thatcher; and three sisters, Marvel Cassens, Valeta Fair, and Dot Sherwood.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 19, at 1:30 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating. Burial will be in the Indianapolis Cemetery near What Cheer. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will begin Thursday morning after 10 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 5-7 Thursday evening to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Mahaska Hospice.
