OMAHA, Neb. —
Margaret E. McCormick, 90, died Aug. 26, 2012 in Omaha, Neb. Private family services will be held in Forest Cemetery, Oskaloosa, for Robert McCormick and “Margie” at a later date.
Margaret was born, Jan. 4, 1922, in Oskaloosa, to Edna Schaeffer Terril and John H. Terril. She attended Oskaloosa schools, and graduated from High School in 1940, as valedictorian of her class. After attending Grinnell College and graduating from William Penn College, she taught school in Victor, before marrying Owen O. Hughes in Miami, Fla. He was killed in an airplane accident in March, 1945. She married Robert D. McCormick in 1947, and they lived in Oskaloosa, until his retirement, when they moved to Sierra Vista, Ariz., in 1997.
She was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church in Oskaloosa, League of Women Voters, Chapter IO, PEO, Elmhurst Country Club, and served on the Library Board. She was at one time a secretary at Jefferson School, and the Presbyterian Church. She became a member of the Faith Presbyterian Church in Sierra Vista, Ariz., upon retiring in Arizona. She enjoyed reading and bridge, and in her younger years, golf and sailing.
In 2006, she moved to Omaha, Neb., and lived at Walnut Grove Retirement Community. She attended Faith-Westwood United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Owen Hughes, and her second husband of 58 years, Robert McCormick in 2006. Also, by her parents, an infant brother, and sister, Betty Lee.
Survivors include her son and wife, Jack and Pamela Hughes, of Edina, Minn., and daughter Mary Lee and husband, Tom, of Omaha, Neb., seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
