MITZI LOUISE ALMOND

SEPT. 2, 1960 — JULY 27, 2010

GRINNELL — Mitzi Louise Almond, 49, of Grinnell and formerly of Oskaloosa, died at her home in Grinnell on Tuesday, July 27, 2010.

She was born Sept. 2, 1960, the daughter of Adrian Versendaal and Norma Scull in Grinnell. She graduated from Grinnell High School with the class of 1978. Following school she worked various jobs including C.O.C. and the Clow Foundry. On May 28, 1993, she was united in marriage to James Almond at Oskaloosa. She loved her family and friends and was like a mother to many people.

She is survived by her husband: James Almond, of Oskaloosa; a daughter: Tisha (and Alex) Colbert, of Topeka, Kan.; a son: Wesley Almond, of Oskaloosa; a stepdaughter: Kim (and Rick) Almond, of Oskaloosa; a stepson: Travis (and Sara) Almond, of Roland; her father and stepmother; Adrian and Kathy Versendaal, of Grinnell; 8 grandchildren; 5 brothers: Arie Joe (and Diane) Versendaal and Dexter (and Teresa) Versendaal, both of Newton, Leroy Versendaal, of Stanwood, Andre (and Lori) Versendaal, Ricky (and Mandy) Versendaal, of Arkansas; a sister: Judalon (and Don) Meacham, of Barstow, Calif.; 2 stepsister: Livian (and Ron) Shaffer, of Fallbrook, Calif., Jaclyn (and Tim) Spencer, of Trenton, Mo.; 2 stepbrothers: Joe Owen, of Rose Hill, and Jack Blair of Seattle, Wash.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother: Norma (Scull) Owen; and 2 stepbrothers: Richard and Earl Dean Cook.

Graveside memorial services will be held Saturday, July 31, at 10:30 a.m. at the Friends Cemetery in Oskaloosa with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating. A procession will form at the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa on Saturday at 10 a.m. to go to the cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday at the Bates Funeral Chapel after 12 p.m. and the family will be present at the funeral home from 5 – 7 p.m. to greet friends and relatives. Following the visitation her body will be cremated. Memorials may be made to the Mitzi Almond Memorial Fund.
