OSKALOOSA —
Robert Masterson, 82, of Oskaloosa, died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012, at the Oskaloosa Care Center in Oskaloosa.
He was born Jan. 24, 1930, at Newton, the son of Lloyd and Laura Humphrey Masterson. He attended Oskaloosa High School. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Upon his honorable discharge from the Army, he returned to Oskaloosa. He went to work for the utility company running cables on the high lines. On Aug. 14, 1959, he was united in marriage to Beverly Fenton at the Little Brown Church in Nashua; Beverly died Jan. 17, 2011. He worked for Kirby Sanitation with his brother in law for many years retiring from there in 2002. Early on Bob was in several bands where he played his guitar and sang. He had a lifelong love of music and learned how to play by ear. He also enjoyed fishing. He delighted in spending time with family and friends, especially his granddaughter Megan. Bob was known for being a very talented handyman, he was always willing to drop what he was doing to help family and friends with projects.
His family includes his son and his wife, John and Patti Masterson, of Papillion, Neb.; a granddaughter, Megan Masterson; two sisters, Verda Kirby and Helen Smith, both of Oskaloosa; two half brothers, Jack Masterson, of Las Cruces, N.M., and Vernon Masterson, of Greely, Colo.; two half sisters, Linda Masterson-Blanchard, of Antigua, Wis., and Janice Masterson-Kauffman, of Eagle Grove; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, Bob was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother Dale Masterson.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 12, at 1 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with the Rev. Dr. Douglas Smiley officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will begin Thursday after 12 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral home from 5-7 Thursday evening to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.
