Question of the Week: Are you worried about catching swine flu?

By DUANE NOLLEN

OSKALOOSA — By an almost 2-1 margin, those who answered this past week’s Question of the Week: Are you satisfied with the job your state lawmaker did this year? said YES.

One-hundred twenty-one — 65.41 percent — said YES while 64 — 34.59 percent — answered NO.

The Question of the Week poll is not scientific and only reflects the opinions of those Internet users who have chosen to participate. The Question of the Week is just another way the Herald’s readers can voice their opinions about issues that affect them.

This week’s Question of the Week deals with swine flu.

There’s an almost hysteria in the air about the H1N1 swine flu. Ground Zero for the flu is Mexico, but people are worried around the world from the U.S. to Europe. Fox News reported Saturday morning that a flight from Germany was diverted because someone on board felt ill.

The news media is awash in stories about health organizations such as the World Health Organization warning of a pandemic. Not many people have died — those usually being the really young or the really old — but people everywhere are on edge.

There was a local scare earlier this past week when a courthouse employee was ill after traveling to Mexico. The judicial offices in the courthouse were closed for a day until the employee was checked at Mahaska Health Partnership and found not to have had swine flu.

Are you on edge? Are you concerned about swine flu coming to Mahaska County?

What do you think?
