Letter to the editor:
This letter is in response to Aiyanna Rahiyma Lonney's letter of May 6,2009.
You rightly point out that heterosexuals can and do choose behaviors that contribute to health and social problems within our society. I disagree with the comment that ... “Christians have every right (to) choose to be ... racist and sexist”. Christians are to treat all races, and male and female genders, heterosexuals and homosexuals with love and in truth. Christians however are not to deny Christian beliefs by supporting behaviors of male rapists, murders, child molesters, wife beaters or homosexual behaviors.
Whether Christian or non-Christian, we need to choose behaviors and support behaviors that strengthen the social, emotional, mental, and spiritual well being of our communities. The most basic component of this is the institution of marriage, where children grow up in homes where there is one dad and one morn and the dad and mom love each other.
