Letter to the editor:

We at the Ecumenical Cupboard want to thank the many businesses, groups, local schools, organizations and individuals who have donated many items since the beginning of the year. The generosity of this community is humbling. We ask and you deliver! Please take a moment and thank them for their great response to our requests.

Medicap has given to our new personal hygiene area, Bowie Dental, Town Square Dental and Osky Dental have helped enormously with our hygiene area by giving toothbrushes. Fareway, Mahaska Drug, Wal-Mart and both Dollar Generals stores have allowed us to have containers in their stores for the community to donate both non-perishable food and basic hygiene items while they shop. Hy-Vee Bakery gives us their extra bread and bakery items on a regular basis. 

Recently, Mahaska County Employees and the Oskaloosa Police department completed a large non-perishable food drive with great success. The Oskaloosa Fire Department has given us non-perishable food items along with the following businesses, groups and organizations, Curves for Women, Penn Central Mall, Mahaska County Master Gardeners, Silver Cross/Bramith Circle of Kings Daughters, Mahaska County 4H, Pella Christian High School Homecoming, Expressions Hair Studio and several different groups and organizations at William Penn who have been very generous in their donations.

An Oskaloosa Christian School 1st grade class had a food drive and the whole class personally delivered their donation. Many Girl Scout Troops have given the Cupboard Girl Scout cookies and one Troup had a food drive and sent wonderful letters and drawings that we still enjoy. United Way has helped us with grants again this year.

And as always, thanks to the many Oskaloosa area churches who volunteer and give food every month and the individuals in the community who donate to the Ecumenical Cupboard.

We sincerely appreciate every item donated. Our thanks to every person in the community who thinks of the Ecumenical Cupboard and helps those who are in need.
