OSKALOOSA — The Mahaska County Conservation Board has formed a teen advisory board named Conservation Teens of Mahaska Community.
Through this board, youth will be encouraged to actively help make decisions and plan events all while learning about teamwork and critical thinking. Mahaska Community Recreation Foundation leaders and additional community leaders have established a partnership with MCCB to ensure the launch of the youth group.
MCRF’s newest employee, Jessica Gituma, recently acquired through AmeriCorps Iowa State of Promise volunteer program, will lead the youth meetings.
One common goal amongst the two organizations is to encourage youth to become involved throughout the community as well as building skills that they will be able to take with them throughout adulthood.
The Conservation Teens of Mahaska Community will be hosting their first teen advisory meeting of the year on Jan. 31 at the Mahaska Conservation Center. The youth will have the opportunity to learn more about the goals of the teen advisory board and more about each other while enjoying snacks, soft drinks, and ending the night with a movie of their choice.
For further information, call Jessica Gituma from MCRF at (641) 676-2901.
