CHARITON —
Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont swept through Saturday’s Chariton Tournament, winning all five matches without losing a set.
The Rockets (12-3) beat East Union, which is ranked fifth in Class 1A, twice on the day, including 25-15, 26-24, in the championship match.
“We played a fantastic tournament,” Rockets caoch Gladys Genskow said. “Winning this tournament was a goal of ours because we have not won it for a few years and this team we have this year is capable of doing great things. The girls were consistent on the day and played hard each and every set.
“It was exciting to win our pool and advance into the finals. Winning our first match in the finals gave us a great opportunity to face East Union again. Seeing them play throughout the day, we knew they had improved their game from when we played them in pool play in the morning. We had our work cut out for us, but we played consistent and never gave up on the game.”
Next for Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont is a South Central Conference match at Clarke on Tuesday night.
