The William Penn volleyball team split a pair of non-conference matches at the Waldorf Triangular Saturday.
The Lady Statesmen (20-8) opened the day with a 3-1 win over Oklahoma Wesleyan (25-11, 22-25, 25-23, 25-16), but ended it with a 3-1 loss to host Waldorf (27-25, 25-27, 18-25, 21-25).
With the win over OWU, the team reached the 20-win plateau for the 15th time in school history and the fifth time in the last six years.
Lacey Taylor led the offense versus Oklahoma Wesleyan with 16 kills, while Katie Rielly was right behind her with 15. Kylie Giger reached double figures as well with 11 winners. William Penn outhit OWU .253-.107.
Dayna Sammons finished with 40 assists, while Taylor served up three aces. Giger and Rielly (four block assists each) and Taylor (one solo block, three block assists) topped the defensive net effort. Danielle Breeher contributed 20 digs in the victory.
Rielly topped her team against Waldorf with 16 kills. Taylor added 12 kills and two aces, while Sammons posted 35 assists. Breeher’s 22 digs and Giger’s six blocks (one solo, five assists) guided the defense.
William Penn returns to Oskaloosa Tuesday to host Grand View in Midwest Collegiate Conference action at 7:30 p.m.
