Osky boy cagers hold banquet


OSKALOOSA — Oskaloosa boys basketball coach Bryan White handed out awards during the annual banquet Monday night at the Oskaloosa High School cafeteria.

White talked about the season, which saw the Indians finish 12-9 overall and 8-6 in the Little Hawkeye Conference, good for fourth place. It was the fourth straight sason which the Indians had a winning record.

The team lost to Urbandale 62-48 in the first round of Class 4A substate action.

Oskaloosa was 19th in 4A in offense and 20th in defense.

Earning all-conference academic honors were Alex Christenson, Jon Eveland, Alex Knoot, Jake McCrea, Jake Osborn, Szymon Waclawik and Malaki Wills.

Wills was named to the first-team all-conference after finishing sixth in the league in scoring at 11.8 points a game. He grabbed 136 total rebounds and had 32 blocks on the season.

Mitch Tucker was a second-team selection after leading the LHC in assists with 108, recorded 41 steals while averaging almost 10 points a game. Knoot and Erik McGee were honorable mention picks.

Knoot had 102 rebounds and scored 7.4 points per game.

McGee led the conference in blocks with 45 while adding 37 steals, 39 assists and scored nine points a game.

Wills was voted by the players as the team’s Most Valuable Player while Christenson was voted as the Best Teammate and Knoot received the Coach’s Award.
